History

Challenge

In 1987, while working closely with a large Santa Cruz, California hospital's various data processing systems, our founder Jim Felich was introduced to a unique challenge faced by pharmacy directors worldwide; Automatic Medication Dispensing System transaction data analysis.

Creation

At the request of the Director of Pharmacy Jim began to evaluate ways to automate the analysis of that hospital's Pyxis ADS transaction information. From this evaluation, the very first data analysis and reporting tool was created. A drug diversion investigation report that had previously taken two man-months to assemble was now available in less than 30 seconds.

Release

Realizing that he had a means of identifying drug diverters in their early stages and inspired by the positive impact he could make in the healthcare industry Jim founded Pandora Data Systems and released the first generation of the Pandora Data System in 1989. Now, at the click of a button, pharmacists were armed with the valuable information needed to protect patient safety and identify impaired service providers.

Community

Throughout the 1990's Pandora® quickly grew in popularity and was installed in hundreds of hospitals. As Pandora's customer base grew, the Pandora community grew as well. With a customer first philosophy, the Pandora team worked hand-in-hand with the Pandora community to build the best product and best services. It has always been Pandora's philosophy to listen to the needs of our customers and utilize our expertise and technology to build powerful solutions.

Growth

Pandora continued to develop additional analysis and reporting capabilities and compatibilities to meet the demands of hospitals nationwide. Now installed in hundreds of hospitals, Pandora Data Systems released PandoraSQL™ in 2005. PandoraSQL extended these analysis and reporting capabilities to users of AcuDose and Omnicell automated dispensing systems and opened the door to more expansive and customizable options for thousands of hospitals nationwide.

Solutions

With a commitment to innovation and to our customers, Pandora Data Systems continues to expand and improve data analytics and hospital operations. With the release of our next generation solution, PandoraVIA™, we have expanded beyond ADS transactions to include integrated analysis and reporting of electronic Medication Administration records. Pandora now provides the Healthcare industry with the unique ability to track, analyze and report on medication activity from the pharmacy to bedside administration.
